Chain Reaction – Build a Food Chain
“The order that animals feed on other plants and animals is called a food chain. Do you think you can put a food chain together? give it a try and learn why every animal within a food chain is so important.”

Acid rain – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“The most important gas which leads to acidification is sulfur dioxide. Emissions of nitrogen oxides which are oxidized to form nitric acid are of increasing importance due to stricter controls on emissions of sulfur containing compounds. 70 Tg(S) per year in the form of SO2 comes from fossil fuel combustion and industry, 2.8 Tg(S) from wildfires and 7-8 Tg(S) per year from volcanoes.[24]”

ChemWiki: The Dynamic Chemistry Textbook – ChemWiki
“The ChemWiki project is a collaborative approach toward chemistry education where an Open Access textbook environment is constantly being written and re-written partly by students and partly by faculty members resulting in a free Chemistry textbook to supplement conventional paper-based books. Success of the project will be gauged by the number of students who consult the ChemWiki and the number of Chemistry courses that eventually adopt the ChemWiki as the sole textbook for class needs.”

Acid rain, from USGS Water-Science School
“Geographic distribution of acid rain
Acidity in rain is measured by collecting samples of rain and measuring its pH. To find the distribution of rain acidity, weather conditions are monitored and rain samples are collected at sites all over the country. The areas of greatest acidity (lowest pH values) are located in the Northeastern United States.”

The PhysWiki Dynamic Textbook Project | College Open Textbooks BLOG
“PhysWiki is one of seven integral components of the STEMWiki Dynamic Textbook Project (DTP), a multi-institutional collaborative venture to develop the next generation of open-access textbooks to improve STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) at all levels of higher learning. The central aim of the DTP is to develop and disseminate free, virtual, customizable textbooks that will substitute for current, commercial paper texts”

“Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs) are open-ended, engineering-based interdisciplinary problems (e.g., science, mathematics, English language arts) that requires students to create solutions in the form of mathematical and scientific models that reveal their thinking about concepts embedded in the problem. Engineering is the applied context for MEAs as students work in teams to iteratively develop, test, and revise their models to provide a solution for a fictitious client. These engaging problems encourage students to utilize a variety of skills including critically reading texts, applying problem-solving strategies, working mathematically, and communicating effectively with teammates to arrive at a solution, or model. “
