Discussions are a great way to get everyone to participate. Start with something easy – not graded, just get acquainted, so students (and you) get an opportunity to see how this works.
Then go for open-ended questions without a right or wrong answer. Grade for participation – student provides evidence that they thought about the questions and were willing to communicate that to the class.
